Dear friends and family,
The recovery from my race is good, I have no sore muscles but do find it hard to get back on to speed during my workouts. I did some cycling and running although the running is quitte slow at this point. I decided not to travel to Bridgetown for a sprint distance triathlon because I would most likely go to fast and ended up injured. I still have a week left overhere and will do some additional cycling, running and swimming to maintain my fitness. I'am working on a new training schedule for the Ironman 70.3 WorldChampionships.
Most likely that will include al the races i've already planned this season finishing the season in Clearwater to get 2 months of rest. I will do another half distance in Holland in September just to make sure I can test some stuff during race conditions.
I've also tried to find an answer on how to describe 70.3 racing, this might be it:
70.3 Ironman racing is kind of like a big family Christmas. You spend a good chunk of the year thinking about, planning and preparing for that big day. You can't sleep the night before in eager anticipation of the event, and you wake up pre-drawn for a game of hurry-up-and-wait. The day goes by in a blur. At one point there will be tears, and at another point, laughter. Then, before you realized it, it's all over, and you' ve totally overdone it and end up lying on bed, with a frozen water bottle against your muscles to numb the pain. But after a day or two you are planning on how to get bigger and better. And the countdown starts again....
Most likely this was my last post from Canada. Next race will be in Veenendaal, a sprint distance triathlon just to get started again. Posts will remain in English as I found lot's of Fans from all over the globe during my stay over here.
I would like to thank all the people who took a moment and congratulated me on my effort. A special thanks goes out to people who supported me during my preparations.
Bye for now,
Henry
